Chase Bank - Checking Account Review from Plainfield, New Jersey

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I opened a checking account with a savings account when I first joined in 2013. I was struggling to actually keep money in my savings and kept transferring money. This year I was curious why I was at a loss constantly. FML they switched my account to a savings and charged me a monthly fee without notice... Granted it's my fault for not looking to make sure these crooks where not stealing my money but they sure in the *** did. $12 a month. Then when I try and cancel have the authority to say I have to listen to their speech of if you have charges outstanding or checks outstanding blah blah blah...listen I never got *** for that account so go *** yourself. I hope the USA never bails your *** out again, no right!!!

Ok several things.

1. They switched your savings to a checking...you said the opposite.

Difficult to have empathy for someone who doesn't know what is happening with their own money.

2. If they are actually stealing your money then call the police.

3. Stating it is your own fault then calling them crooks and they are stealing is again opposite statements.

4.

The USA did not bail out Chase. Look it up.

5. Finally it takes an ignorant person to use profanity.

On the 7th when I tried to log into my bank account to check my balance, I couldn't and a message came up to call their 1-800 number. So I did, to try and find out what was going on. The rep said that they had restricted the account because a wire transfer of $520 had been initiated. I advised her that I did not authorize this transaction and she immediately froze my checking account, savings account, and all debit cards associated with the account. I was told to call the 1-800 number that they had for internet access and that I could handle everything from there. I was not advised of anything else. Calling this number was not an easy task and I was on hold for about 40 minutes before a rep answered. I explained what was going on and that I needed help regaining access to my accounts. She said that she had four verification questions for me...I answered every question that she asked and she informed me that I failed my verification questions...wtf, really! Her last words were "you need to go into a bank to fix this." The next day I went to the bank close to my office. One banker didn't even want to deal with me, the other had no *** clue about what he was doing. I had to tell him 3 times that everything of mine had been shut down. He goes over all transactions in my account with me and I verified every transaction that I had initiated and told him that I knew of two more that I had completed through my PayPal account that would be coming through. I thought that he understood that all the transactions that I verified were ok to be processed, but instead he apparently only listed two pending transactions and the PayPal transactions that I had told him about. He proceeded to withdraw over $5,000 out of the restricted account and deposit it in my new account. Once again I assumed that when the transactions processed in my old account they would roll it over to my new account to debit the funds. Days later after I had assumed that everything had been taken care, I hadn't heard from the bank or anyone else for that matter. Then I received a cancellation notice from my insurance company due to my payment being returned. I immediately called and had my insurance reinstated which cost me an additional fee for the returned payment. Then one of my credit card companies called me and stated the same thing, once again I immediately took care of it and the extra fee. I called the bank and spoke with the banker that worked with me and told him what was going on. His response was "we didn't pay it because you didn't tell us to..." At this point I'm just baffled at the ignorance of this man. I tried to explain to him that the transactions that we went over were supposed to be paid along with the pending and PayPal transactions. He then started to get pissy with me and I had completely had it by that time. I told him to print off a list of every transaction that had taken place on my restricted account and that I would be over to pick them up. Once I arrived he handed me the account list, I found the two accounts that I had to repay and showed him on the account where they had already processed through and that the payment should have been carried out. I was so infuriated at this point, I'm pretty sure that I yelled at told him that this was *** and that this was the THIRD time that something like this has happened to my husband and I and that if it didn't get straightened out that I would be taking my business elsewhere. Later that afternoon I called CHASE corporate and was told that there was nothing that they could do and that I would have to speak with the Branch Manager. So I called the bank and asked to speak with her and I was told that she was in a meeting. I asked to leave a message and was then told that she was going to be out until the 21st but that she could get me to a Manager on Duty. At this time I didn't realize that this was the initial banker that didn't even want to have anything to do with me. He said that all of the transactions should have been rolled over to the new account and paid and that he would get it taken care of for me. The next day he called and left a message that he was working on everything along with letters for the two accounts that I had to pay. Then the banker that I was working with called and told me that everything was ready for me to pick up, that they had credited me back for the extra fees that I had incurred and that he would be moving funds from my new account to the restricted account to cover payments for the old transactions. Once again I thought that everything was taken care of at that point. Until that weekend when I started getting calls from other creditors. All in all I was charged in access of $236 in extra fees. I called the bank on Monday morning and explained everything. I was told that they weren't going to cover any other payments that were trying to go through and that they were not going to reimburse me any money. I then stated that I was going to come in to speak with the Manager that I had talked to previously. When I got there and he came up to me, I immediately said that I needed to speak with someone else and he said that there was nobody else there that I could talk to. I asked him to go over the old account with me and he said that they had already done that, I had to get loud with him to get him to do this. We went over everything and I told him that I wanted to be refunded the extra fees and he told me that he couldn't do that. And that he wouldn't do that because I was notified about everything when the account was restricted. I argued with him over this point because I hadn't been called or even sent an email regarding the situation. After 30 minutes on the phone he discovered that they called two incorrect numbers that were on my file. At that point his tune change just a little but he told me that it was all my fault that this even happened and that I should be more careful where I pull my account up. I had to leave at that point. I returned to work and emailed the Branch Manager and explained the situation in detail. The next day I had a Branch Manager from a different location call to talk to me about everything. He told me that he would be more than willing to call all of my creditors and try to get them to waive the extra fees that I already had to pay...really...I had already spoke with them and guess what, it's their policy to charge for returned checks...but I guess that he didn't believe me. He called me again today and asked if he could call them and speak with him, I told him no that I had already done so. His response was, "Well that's not right." He told me that he was still working on everything. I doubt that I will be refunded any of the extra fees that I incurred, I doubt that the bankers that I dealt with will be talked to at all. Customer service is a huge part of my job, I would never demean anyone because of their gender (as I feel that CHASE did), I would never tell them that what happened was all their fault (I would figure out a solution instead of playing the blame game), And I sure wouldn't let this situation drag on like it has.

Apparently chase broke up with me. Woke up this morning @ 4am to check if my Direct deposit was in the bank TO PAY FOR MY RENT, and there is "no account on file" so I wait up (even though I have to work ALL DAY tomorrow) to call and ask why my account is closed. I have NEVER been overdrawn except once, and I paid the 350$ back THE SAME DAY! My account was zero balanced, and waiting to receive a check, so there's absolutely no reason they should close my bank account. I truly was offended by what the representative said on the phone: "you will never be able to bank with chase again." UHM WHY. He had no answer for me except chase was "expressing their rights to end the relationship with you." Lol OK. So now I have to bust missions and figure out how to get my check and drive IN traffic BEFORE I have to get to work, and then still get out of work, and rush to PAY rent. OH YEAH, and it was my STUDENT account.

Killing me with fees

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've been with Chase for a long time but I'm sick of all the fees. They hit me with fees when my direct deposit is under their minimum level, and then they'll put my debits in before my deposits on the same day to charge me more fees, and then fees to use my savings account. It's getting ridiculous. There's free checking at about every other bank, and Chase is a huge bank so it doesn't make sense that they need to charge so many different fees for their checking. I've put off moving banks because it's a hassle to change my account info with everyone, but I can't afford to bank with Chase any longer.

That such a LIE. Banks do NOT put withdraws before deposits.

Not a single bank.

not sure about the above claim but they do other things that are very shady. I'm fighting them for a bunch of fees now.

They sort all debits from high to low and intentionally delay debit cards transactions if they see that they can charge more fees. More specifically, I had over 3k in the account three days ago and made some small purchases in the 20-100 dollar range. Also, wrote three checks with one not fully funded. Chase held all the debit card charges until three days later, bunch all of them together with the checks, then processed the largest check first (which took my account negative) and then all of the other, smaller, charges.

They deliberately sorted all of the transactions in a such a way as to incur more fees for me. Whereas, if they cared about their customers, they would process all of the smaller charges first and then that larger check they should have either paid or returned. There could have been one fee, instead I'm dealing with five. Also, since when do debit card transaction are held pending for three days?

I purchased some clothes online and they were shipped the next day, so, obviously, the merchant got paid.

Chase processed the transaction the same day, then put it back in "pending" three days later and now I will pay a fee for that, too. A sixth one.

Ok in response I did research.

1. Deposits/credits always go first

2.

Then purchases, withdrawal etc with a time stamp go next

3. Then highest to lowest amount.

This is in the brochure from chase.

sidenote...in regards to debit card transactions and when they no longer are pending is solely on the merchant and the merchant bank.

so it is not a scam if you just ask the bank. It is in the brochure

I used to be a very loyal customer for chase all of a sudden it's bout a year ago I was a victim of identity theft when I gave someone from social media my password and username from my app over the next two days I came to one of the branches in Springfield gardens (now moved to Laurelton) to get my money the teller said that the check was bounced and she was so rude she ain't giving me my money and the guy was outside waiting for the money the banker had to call the police on this person who set me up file a report got my account on restriction to closure and made me switch to another bank I tried to reason with chase and give me another chance but they blocked me out from opening accounts and it was baloney so they can't help and made me a financial burden and a total reject it is there a way do something because chase don't give a hoot about customers who make terrible mistakes I'm tired of switching banks

Teller failed to recognize counterfeit money

7/11/2016 I went into the Aliso Viejo Branch, located on Aliso Creek Rd, cross of Pacific Park. My teller was Jason. I had a $700 check to deposit and requested $350 cash back. Jason gave me-$100 bills and 1-$50 bill. I left Chase and drove straight to the nearby Wells Fargo ATM to deposit the $350 I had just received. The ATM kept rejecting the cash. After the 3rd attempt, the ATM finally accepted $250 but kicked back 1 $100 bill. I walked into the Wells Fargo branch and requested to deposit the bill. Once the teller took the bill she immediately said it was a fake. She ran it through a machine that she said could not verify whether it was real or not. She called for a manager who also said the bill was fake. They kept the bill, by law, gave me a receipt and a copy of the bill. I immediately drove back to Chase to inform them of what had just taken place. I was told that they do not have fake money in their teller drawers but that it was possible that the teller, Jason, had received a cash deposit and that the bill I received was part of that deposit. However, they also said that once I left the bank the first time, I cannot prove that Jason gave me that fake bill. They added that I should have said something before I left the bank.

Issue 1: I am not trained to recognize a counterfeit $100 bill, the teller is trained.

Issue 2: They admit that it was possible the teller received a cash deposit from which that fake bill may have originated. Which means the teller had his hands on that bill at least twice. Once when he received the bill and the second time when he gave it to me. In addition, if Jason had received a cash deposit, why wasn't the cash run through a machine to verify it was not counterfeit.

Wells Fargo is currently investigating the bill and will credit my account if they determine it is not fake. However, if the bill is fake, Chase will not do anything because I can't prove the teller, Jason, gave me that fake bill, because I, who is not trained, was supposed to say something before I left the branch. I'm out my $100.

Chase is a total piece of rubbish bank, that are full of unhelpful, arrogant, ***

Jason probably put the fake one in from the fake ones he printed.

Just because these bankers are suppose to be trusted to handle our money, they are by no means exempt from the temptation of taking our money when they see a chance to do so and get away with it. Jason wasnt counting on you going to another bank with the money. Its not hard to figure out, He is the source of the fake money.

Guest

Did you look carefully at the bill in question? Most of the time you can recognize a fake bill, especially now with the new security features on $100 bills. If you didn't, then you are at the mercy of the bank and out a cool hundred.

I was double charged at a stake house and a few chase customer service employees PROMISED that I would receive my money back multiple times and it has been more then a month and I still don't have the amount back in my account. All the chase representatives I spoke with did not seem to care about my problem at all and every time I felt like they were just trying to get me of the line ASAP by just telling me what I wanted to hear which of course was that they wold help me get my money back but I was just being lied to and they kept telling me that the I should get it back in the next few days but more then a month later im still waiting and when I call we have the same conversation all over again. I lost any hope of getting my money back and on top of all that the last person I spoke to did not seem to understand or speak English that well and that is just ridiculous. Im going to close my account with them and go to bank of America.

Stolen cash in bank - BE SO CAREFUL of staff too

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Sorry to say it but in my years with WAM & then Chase.. I naturally was relaxed and confident of staff at my normal branches in Southern CA.. 1027 West Manchester LA to be precise... Recently I had to attend late afternoon.. with updates for my small business.. had a bundle of documents and folder.. one contained about $6,000 cash which I did not want to leave car. In the 50 or so minutes from 4.20pm on 3rd November... that it took to take care of me.. I moved the folder to the back of the desk. .and this is a long way from the public.. and when I left.. i *** well forgot it ..missed packing it with all the other docks.... really glad to get out as it was taking ages to get things done and a long drive ahead that night.. The black airline folder is sealed.. but around midnight I was in Nevada. Realizing & knowing where i left it and that only the younger female CEO would probably see it .. I sleep uncomfortably.. I got onto them at 9.20am.. was told by a male assistant manager that the folder was fine and waiting for me. I drive back from NV.. get to the branch about 4pm.. wait.. friendly. and a new person takes me in to the same office.. reaches down in a desk unlocked.. & pulls the folder out.. EMPTY.. Nil.. $6000.. where is the money??? She does not know.. "the normal girl was off today".. sick or rdo or who knew.. Next get a manager one who also knew me from yesterday.. he was quick to escape...after telling me a male customer brought it in .. .. then THE manager.. who assured me camera's would help.. but . NO . no camera . no followup ever.. the manager emailed at approx 5.30pm the next day to say he was off on vacation and to email somebody else next week.. The Story was to unfold.. as the branch manager Ferando called the off duty female CSO on the phone at her home. was told.. She has chased after me with the folder.. (1) The cso went after me out the door on realizing i had left the folder.. but I was gone.. (2) the assistant manager said a unknown male just came n to the branch & returned the black folder into the bank and handed in an empty folder.. Which is it?? OK camera's.. that will help.. Fernando agrees to pursue it in the AM.. BOTH of these stories would have been collaborated with the security camera. .but to date.. STILL NOT OF THE 4 follow up emails are responded too. My Phone does not get answered.. I know in the end.. as I knew then .. I'd have a hard time chasing this up .. but i trusted the manager Fernando Adame to be in contact.. and onto it.. as he said to me he also has to know who to trust.. and the stories did not add up.. and probably did not .. as long as I remained polite and contained.. I would go away.. Well the money matters little to me..but the deep hatred of thieves is long embedded from my previous employment.. Looking into it.. I know how this could have been resolved.. and may have been for the protection of other customers.. even a phone call back or email with something.. but no.. nil. So .. who can you trust to do the right thing by customers.. in the employees of Chase.. .. unfortunately many to date .. I hope.. .. but unfortunately.. not at this branch.. and ask yourself .. are the rest the same.....? Well.. are they..??

I had the displeasure of dealing with "Ken" in Chase's fraud department in the Philippines today. He had the nerve to call me from a caller-ID blocked number regarding a possibly fraudulent (it wasn't) attempted charge on my card today. He behaved rudely and aggressively, and refused to provide his employee ID. I have a zero balance on my card, and don't need Chase at all. Putang ina mo, Ken! By the way, I verified in a subsequent call to Chase that "Ken" is an employee. What kind of fraud department calls customers from a blocked number?
